In a medium bowl, combine beef, egg, breadcrumbs, cheese, basil and onions. Make balls with minced meat and set them aside.
In a large saucepan, bring the broth to a boil, add spinach, carrots, pasta and previously cooked meatballs. Bring to a boil and reduce heat, simmer for about 10 minutes. Serve hot sprinkled with cheese on top.
