Since ancient times, much attention has been paid to this. These, for example, were the rules on how to sit, published by Johann Sulzer at the end of the 18th century. This set of rules is of practical importance today.

"Sitting decently is not an easy art." This means: "Do not hold your head as if it is planted on a stake, and do not swing it from side to side." And further: "Do not cross your arms over your chest, do not press them to your sides, do not put your elbows, do not turn a fan in your hands, do not play with your fingers, do not rotate a cup in your hands, do not straighten your hair or dress." Then follows the instruction: “Keep the body straight, do not sit in the chair as if you had grown into it; "Do not crawl to the edge of the chair, do not fidget, as if you are sitting on needles, do not put your feet on your feet! .."

Special care is given to the legs. Pay attention to the position of the feet of passengers in public transport. One spread his legs and stretched far forward, the other hid them under the seat. His neighbor is sitting cross-legged, and someone else has wrapped his legs around the legs of the seat. This, of course, is a manifestation of individual, but not meritorious inclinations.

At home and among your own, you can choose for yourself the most comfortable pose. However, in society it is not good to extend arms and legs in all four directions. Thats right - to put your legs upright or slightly cross them. On modern armchairs and sofas, where you’re almost reclining, you can sit with your legs stretched out slightly forward.
