The smell of young wine is called the aroma, while a more mature matured wine product has a combination of more subtle smells, which are called a “bouquet.” In ancient Greece, the owner of the feast had to sip some wine first to show guests that it was not poisoned , from where the phrase "For Your Health" came from. The phrase "Toast" came from the habit of the ancient Romans to throw a piece of toasted bread, "toast" into a bowl of wine, to soften an unpleasant aftertaste or excessive acidity.

Since wine tasting is more associated with a sense of smell, women, especially women of reproductive age, are more delicate tasters, because they have a better sense of smell. If a woman drinks a moderate amount of wine, this can aggravate their sexual pleasure. Red wines are such, because that during fermentation, color is extracted from the shells of the grape fruit.

At the dawn of the heyday of Rome, women were strictly forbidden to drink wine, and, having caught his wife at the crime scene, the husband was even entitled to kill her. Also, on this basis, the husband could insist on a divorce. The last event of this kind was recorded in 194 BC.

The oldest bottle of wine in the world dates back to 325 AD and was found near the city of Speyer in Germany, inside one of two Roman crypts. It is now on display at the der Pfalz History Museum. There is growing evidence that moderate consumption of wine can reduce the risk of heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, sudden heart attacks and gum disease. Along with positive medical indications, drinking wine may slightly increase the risk of some types of cancer of the digestive tract, especially the esophagus. The likelihood of getting breast cancer also increases slightly.

Red wine is usually a better antioxidant than white because it contains a substance called resveratrol, which has properties that protect the heart. California is the fourth largest wine producer after France, Italy and Spain. Wine tasters spin the wine in a glass so that it began to exude its aromas. Most of them fill the glasses no more than by a third, so that during the unwinding the wine does not spill, and the aroma remains inside the glass.

Most wines are served in glasses that have a slight bend at the top, which allows aromas to linger inside. The thinner the glass and its rim, the better. Glasses with a sharp expansion, like a hearth, scatter aromas. When tasting wine, hold it for a few moments in your mouth, and then either swallow it or (preferably) spit it out in a special spittoon. Really good wine will leave a long aftertaste in your mouth, while the taste of a low-quality drink will not last long. The code of Hammurabi, king of Babylonia (1800 BC), included a law severely punishing merchants with bad wine: fraudsters were simply drowned in the river.

The Romans found that mixing wine with lead not only helped it last a long time, but also gave it a sweet taste. Chronic lead poisoning by the Romans is often called one of the causes of the fall of Rome. A wine with a watery taste is made from grapes harvested during the rainy season.

The worst place to store wine is the kitchen, as it is often too hot there. The refrigerator is also not the best place - it is too cold to blame. An ideal place is a wine cellar. Heavier foods go better with stronger wines; for less high-calorie foods, light wine will do. In addition, red wine is usually served with meat dishes, white wine is drunk with fish and chicken meat, sweet wines go better with dessert. Traditionally, light wines are served first, and then the degree rises during meals. Also, white wine is served before red, young to old, and dry wine is drunk to sweet.

Prohibition, introduced in the USA at the beginning of the 20th century, also implied any mention of it from school and student texts, including Greek and Roman literature. Prohibitionists (proponents of the Prohibition) also tried to exclude wines used in medicine from drinking and argued that biblical phrases about wine referred to non-fermented grape juice.

The year of vintage wine is not necessarily the year the wine was bottled, as the wine is not always bottled when the grapes were harvested. Typically, vintage wines are made from grapes from a particular year. Ordinary wines can be made from a mixture of alcoholic drinks made from grapes harvested in different years. A glass of wine should be held by the leg, not by the cup, since in the latter case the warmth of the palm will increase the temperature of the wine.

Champagne, one of the greatest sparkling wines, is very popular in the world. Many mistakenly believe that it was invented by the Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Perignon (1638-1715). Although he did not discover a method for producing sparkling wine, but this man found many ways to improve the production of champagne wines, which are used today. It is said that when he drank this magnificent drink, he would say: "I drink the stars."

Not all wines get better over time. In fact, the vast majority of wines are produced ready to drink, and they are not recommended to “age”. Only with rare exceptions can wine be stored for more than ten years.
